Finding a holiday home on the Yorkshire coast that genuinely works for eight people is harder than it sounds. Castle Sunset on the Beach was set up for exactly that: a clifftop beach house above Cayton Bay, just south of Scarborough, with room for the whole family or a group of friends to spread out, eat together and still find a quiet corner.
Sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms
The house sleeps 8 across 4 bedrooms, with 2 bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor, which helps when you are travelling with grandparents, anyone who would rather avoid the stairs, or young children you want close to the living area in the evening. The other two bedrooms are upstairs, giving parents or older teenagers a little more privacy.

Travel cots are available for little ones, a high chair can be provided on request, and there is a washing machine, which makes a real difference on a week-long family holiday with sandy clothes and damp towels.
Space to be together
The heart of the house is the open-plan living and dining area, with floor-to-ceiling glass looking out to sea. Everyone can be in the same room, whether that is cooking in the fully equipped kitchen, playing board games at the table or watching the sun go down. On cooler evenings, the fireplace makes it cosy.
When the children (or the adults) need to burn off some energy, the games room has a pool table and darts. It is a lifesaver on a rainy afternoon, and a popular spot for friendly family tournaments.
A private garden and hot tub
Outside, the enclosed garden gives you a safe, private space with outdoor dining and your own hot tub. Mealtimes outdoors in summer, a soak after a beach day, a glass of something while the sky turns pink: this is where holiday memories get made. Read more on our hot tub holiday home page.
Beach days without the car
A steep path from the clifftop leads down to Cayton Bay's big sandy beach. The path is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility. Children love rock pooling at low tide, older ones can try surfing, and there is plenty of sand for family walks, ball games and castle building.

Easy days out for all ages
Cayton Bay is a great base for exploring. Scarborough is about 10 minutes away by car, with its castle, harbour and seaside attractions; Filey is also about 10 minutes; Bridlington is about half an hour; and Whitby is about 45 minutes. Nature lovers can see puffins at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, about half an hour away, and the North York Moors are about 20 minutes inland. A bus to Scarborough and Filey stops at the top of the street, and there is free parking at the house. For family favourites such as SEA LIFE Scarborough and Peasholm Park, see our things to do page, or browse the Cayton Bay area guide.
